Bonfire Therapy

The last few nights have been cool enough to wear a light sweater and look forward to bonfire therapy. What is that you ask? It is sitting next to a bonfire in the cool dark and watching the flames dancing, hearing the crackle of flame tasting wood, smelling the wood smoke in the air. It is space with no tv, phone, or stereo to listen to the owls in the woods, coyotes eerie cackles, and distant dogs barking. It is a chance to sit quietly in the dark lit by flames and think deep thoughts, or simply still the mind for awhile.

I have been inspired to paint bright Autumn leaves and the many colors of Fall in most of my pictures lately. As the days grow shorter and the leaves change into butterfly brightness dancing in the wind and casting themselves away from their tree tethers, I delight in the scents and look forward to the crunch of those same leaves under foot. Mums and pumpkins are beginning to show up on porches. The heat that once threatened has lost its grip on us as we spend more time on those porches enjoying the changing season. Porch sitting and bonfire therapies. Sounds good to me!
